Is this upgrade worth it?

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of upgrading from my SW 200PDS to a 10" Quattro (steel). I have limited room in my roll-off obsy ,so 1000mm is the max FL I can use.

But will I gain much or does the extra fine collimation needed make it more difficult? Difficult decision, I am 50/50 visual and AP at the moment, but Ap is 'taking over'! Thoughts and comments would be helpful, thanks..

Cheers

Ron

The shift from 8" to 10" is usually quite noticeable, 50% extra light gathering. I've no experience of the Quattro but it would appear to be faster therefore more suitable for AP. Collimation is a skill we all should develope.

Thanks Peter, my collimation skills are pretty good using a Cheshire and a Baader laser. I'm not too worried about that, it's is there a 'wow' factor with the Quattro?

In imaging F ratio is king so I suspect that there will be an imaging Wow, certainly. I use our Tak FSQ85 at native F5.3 and reduced F3.9. There is no small difference in signal to time ratio!

If you are up for tweaking the fast Quattro then I bet you'd be delighted.
