CR2 and Fits

Recommended Posts

If i remember correctly i think my canon came with a cd. On the disc was a load of software, and im sure one of these bits of software was a converter. Im not sure about losing data, but if u do i dont think it will be much as im sure its a type of RAW file, bit i cant be sure. Inly reason i say this is DSS saves its stacked images as either a fit or tif.

Hope that helps

CR2 and FITS could both be seen as data containers. It should be possible to convert between them losslessly or near enough so. I know for example PixInsight and Nebulosity can do conversoins, but neither are free tools. Strictly, full resolution CR2 files contain bayer pattern colour information. Typically this is de-bayered into RGB format for normal use.
