Does anyone know if it is possible to get an adapter ring to allow a canon dslr to accept nikon lenses? thanks

I believe so. Try a google for "canon nikon lens converter".

You probably won't get infinity focus though, making it useless for astrophotography

They exist and are quite common. Due to the Canon having a shorter mount distance, well made adapters will have no problem with retaining infinity focus. Some of the adapter makers have even managed to put aperture control on the adapter if you want to be able to do so on Nikon G lenses which don't have an aperture ring.

Nikon has a longer flange focal plane distance than Canon, so Nikon body will need an adapter with an optical elements to allow it to reach infinity focus with a canon lens. Needless to say it's not very good.
