Homemade 'scope rings

After discovering that 'normal' 'scope rings wont allow my ZS66 to be piggybacked, well it worked but pointed at a different part of the sky to my Newt!

Anyways bought a set of 100mm rings from Ebay for £12, drilled some 4.5mm holes and tapped them to accept a M5 bolt.

One question though, is a 5mm bolt thick enough or hould I try something like an 8mm bolt?

They look just like original Sklywatcher 'scope rings' Craig, and you've gone down the same route as I did

I used M6 'studding for mine, and they currently support an ED80, so M5 should be plenty for the ZS66.

I just need to find some plastic caps. Dont want to spoil the lovely paint job on my ZS66

I used nylon M10 bolts from a trader on ebay. They are nice and soft and don't mark the scopes at all.

M10? I cut and threaded the holes as M5 but cannot find any M5 Nylon bolts! Whats his ID and I might mail him and ask. If not I could always drill the holes to accept M10
