Cygnus;around the Swan.

Recommended Posts

Finally a bit of darkness about 1am.

Cygnus was just above the town glow in the East.After M57 and the small dense M56,from one of my old maps I found open clusters well worth seeking out;

NGC7063,NGC6910,NGC6866,NGC6819,NGC6871,NGC6834 ,NGC6791,NGC6811 andNGC 6997 and then down to The Coathanger (upside down). The frost was then settling on the tube and my winter jacket (half way through May!).

I could no more than to admire the difference in colour, density and size of these clusters.It was a fine first light for the HEQ5 Synscan and 8" Orion Optics,nice.

Yep, open clusters seem to be the poor relations of the tribe.

If there's bad seeing or it's not dark enough,they are well worth searching out. We had about 70% cloud cover this am,but could still pick out clusters in the gaps. Even more bizzare we saw M31 very low in the North at about 2.00am,through the clouds,nice.
