OO 150P V Skywatcher 150P

Recommended Posts

I've read through previous threads and OO get quite a kicking on the value for money front as far as Newtons go,

but...

Taking into consideration the following, with a total acceptance that optically there's nothing between them.

That the OO has:

A, a built in fan (do you need on on a 150P?)

B, a better finder

C, a better focuser (I'm prepared to be wrong about that)

D, is lighter.

Now this is my very last question on scopes and mounts as I am about to sell and buy. As much as I might like a TAL they seem a bit heavy for my mount, and I need an AZ mount due to various enviromental factors, AKA light and trees so its between these two it would seem.

A is correct, on some OO versions but not essential on a 6" F/5 in my view.

B is not correct - the finder is a Skywatcher one or whatever you choose to put on it.

C is not correct - the OO crayford is very average indeed I've found.

D is true - the OO tubes tend to be a bit lighter than the Skywatcher equivilents.

You can specify much higher quality optics with the OO newts of course wheras you get the next one off the production line with Skywatcher, not that they are usually bad.
