Polar alignment question

Suppose i have a polar aligned mount on a pier, reasonably well aligned.

But i want to gain a better position of my scope around the garden and i remove the head from the pier and mount the head onto my tripod!

Still with me?

i know i lose the aignment...but have i lost it in both north south and east west?

since my latitude has not changed at all can i leave that alone?

If your pier top and tripod top are both level then you only lose your azimuth. The altitude would be the same in theory. In this case they need to be level because that is the only repeatable angle that could be arranged for both pier and tripod.

As long as you set the scope in the home position (pointing to Polaris) before taking it off the pier and have a level tripod to move to, it'll just mean adjusting the azimuth to point back to Polaris.

Well done Olly :), I need to type faster
