C8 SCT v GSO 8" RC

Recommended Posts

I used to have a C8 SCT that I used for mainly for planetary & lunar imaging, and occasionally DSOs. I used a 0.68 focal reducer and an SXVH16 for DSOs, and a DMK for planetary & lunar. I sold the scope and I'm thinking of upgrading to new scope for the same targets, and was wondering if I would see any significant difference from the C8 SCT if I went for one of the GSO 8" Ritchey Chretien scopes? Or should I go for aperture with a C9.25 or C11 SCT? The 10" GSO RC are a little expensive. Are there any benefits of the RC design over the SCT+FR option? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I think it depends on the emphasis of your imaging requirements. The SCT seems to be good for lunar and planetary imaging and "OK" for DSO's, with a RC the pendulum swings in the opposite direction.
