Just thought I would post hear instead of starting a new thread. As these have flat mirrors would it be possible to just replace the mirror with a concave one. That would fix it up surely?

they don't have a flat mirror, it is a spherical mirror which is concave. it has not been finished/polished to a parabolic shape which is where the skill and time is in mirror making.a better mirror and secondary would solve the problem but be cheaper to buy a better one in the first place.

you might get one from astroboot at scopes'n'skies but to be honest buying a used 8" Newtonian by orion optics, skywatcher or celestron would be more cost effective overall.orion optics and others sell the optics only too but for a basic 8" f4 and secondary it would be about £300 plus VAT and delivery.

I have never used one but it might not be as bad as people say. it might give decent views of some things. best thing is to encourage your mate to go to a club and see if someone can try and tune it as best as possible and try some good quality eyepieces. it may be at least serviceable. worth a try. hope so.
