Is Canon EOS 300D good for DSO imaging?

Recommended Posts

It's a great camera for deepsky imaging. The large chip makes it more forgiving on alignment errors. Nice wide field images. Great for large extended objects. Red response is poor but can be rectified by having the camera modified (£200 if you don't fancy the job).

It will run to long(ish) exposures of 7-9mins. Summer milkyway images are breathtaking with a DSLR. And the 300D is still pretty much on a par with the latest cameras for astro use. You can't go wrong. For the money what else is there to choose from? Modified webcam (SC3) or for a bit more money the Atik 16ic. There's swings and roundabouts but I'd personally go with the DSLR until the budget allowed for a really nice Astro CCD.
