what am i doing wrong

hi i have a expolorer 130p and was looking at jupiter and venus this evening and all i could see was a bright light no defined edges or anything no moons and kept getting light flairing out in four directions from them like when you look at a light bulb with your naked eye i was using my 25mm lens then tried my 10mm but still no difference what am i doing wrong

Are you sure you are focused correctly? Turn the focus knob throughout it's full distance very slowly till you get it spot on. Try it on a bright star first to find the approximate point. :D

done that been looking at the moon was perfect looked at the planets couldnt make anything out but bright light
