SCT Collimation - first time

Recommended Posts

Well that went well, not

Did a basic collimation from the front in daylight

Trued the de focussed method on Sirius

Hmm, harder than it looks

Now all I have in the defocussed image is a D rather than a circle

Hi. Gregger.

It's surprising how little adjustments of the secondary mirror, can produce large movement in the collimating process.

I never look down the tube to assess the collimation, I go straight to adjusting using a defocused star.

Have you got Bobs Knobs fitted. They do make it easier :).

Fitted the Bobs Knobs, hence the effort at collimation

I read somewhere that daytime rough collimation looking down the SCT from 12 feet or so was a good start. It produced a fair Jupiter image but then all down hill!
