Baader Neo. filter

Hello

Is the Baader Neodymium filter as good as people make out? Getting ready to buy a LP or UHC filter in the next couple of weeks and so far the £20 skywatcher one is leading for me. But would the Baader one do as much as it says, and/or work as good as a UHC?

Mainly going to be on a 4.3" cass, but also a 8 inch newt.

The Neodynium and the UHC are two different animals, the Neo doesn't do anything for nebula, and the Neo is better on planets, so it depends what your viewing preferences are really...

So really, the sales spiel about being an all rounder which enhances Deep sky objects is a load of rubbish?

About which one being an all-rounder? The UHC has been described as such, but only for nebula and only compared to the narrowband OIII as far as I know. I have both and they are both excellent filters if that was your concern...

I have not heard the Baader Neo described as an all-rounder, though it is certainly flexible, especially in light polluted area like mine, a mile from Swindon town centre.

It says it enhances nebula and galaxies. Now is that just a way of saying it is a light pollution filter, rather than saying it brings out more detail ala UHC or O-III?

That may well be another way of saying things, but the narrowband filters are spefically targetted to certain wavelengths of light, whereas the Baader Neo is specifically designed to exclude certain wavelengths IMO, not sure if they enhance certain targets, only to exclude certain distractions I would have thought.

Not seen that string, AP is different from visual, however, very interesting. My choices would be the SW LP filter and the OIII and UHC for visual.

The Sky Watchers are my personal choice. Funnily enough, my first experience with the LP filter was of M81/M82 like the link you posted!
