Colourless images

I tried me webcam for the first time last night, it was windy so not the clearest of images but I could only get Jupiter as a colourless disc with no detail. What was I doing wrong?

How many frames did you take and how many dod you use? On a night of not graet seeing you may well only use a small number.

I only used about 200ish, I couldn't get a clear focus not even on the moon.

You'll need to drop the gain or increase the shutter speed on the webcam properties.

When you can see bands on jupiter you are getting there. The moons will likely disappear.

i got these pictures with my webcam few days ago, i turned the brightness right down to get some detail but i lost the moons exept one witch you can see just going in front of jupiter and casting its shadow on to the top band of the planet cheers

Looks over exposed as the moons are not normally that prominent. What settings were you using?

I messed with it too much but I think I need to spend more time. It was a bit awkward as it was really windy and blumming cold too. I was very surprised at the amount of magnification without a barlow etc. I had expected less so what with the wind and the the fov being small I didn't have a lot of time to set things up properly. Thanks for the help guys.

One other question, is there a way to reduce the magnification or am I better leaving that side of things alone?

For good Jupiter detail you will need even more magnification.

Hmmm, don't think I have good enough seeing round here for more. Is the webcam equivalent to approx 6mm EP?

Do you have a Barlow you can use? Turn the gain down to about 40%. Brightness about 50% and gamma at 0.

I'll give it a try, mind you that could be a while judging by the weather forecast
