Skywatcher light pollution filter

Recommended Posts

I don't use a SW myself but it has a good reputation on here and it's a very good price (£20). The LP filter I have (Antares) can make the image quite dark and find the Badder Neodynium is a good compromise although a little more expensive.

If your general sky glow is of the orange type, then this filter will work very well. Fortunately, my neighbourhood has these street lights and the SW filter virtually eliminates the glow from them. That is until 'they' decide to replace them with the cursed LED street lights!

I have the SW LPR filters as well and use for both observing in 1.25" and imaging in 2" sizes. For imaging this works really well for the money, but visually I only use it for the moon as it cuts the brightness a tiny bit and seems to give me a contrast enhancement.

I have only heard positive things regarding the SkyWatcher LPF. Just getting into this area myself I bought the Baader Neodymium skyglow & IR cut filter, only used it once under less than perfect conditions. May give the SW light pollution filter 2inch a go soon, or the Ostara. 2" from Lincolnshire Optics for £20 dont know if they do a 1.25 version. Mmm seems a bit cheap so may stick with the SW. Good luck with your new filter.
