Advice on Baader Hyperion 13mm?????

Hi Peeps,

Bought a Hyperion 24mm a while ago now and I am very happy with it, so I am looking at getting an 8mm for definate, but also considering a 13mm. Here lies my quandry. I have a Celestron Ultima 2x barlow which when connected to my 24mm gives 12mm. Now I have read that wherever possible you are always better getting an eyepiece for the size that you want rather than using a barlow as doing so means reducing viewing quality by virtue of the fact that you are looking through more lenses thereby diminishing the clarity. Is this correct?

I know that the Ultima is a high quality barlow, so should I use the barlowed 24mm and see how I get on? The Hyperions are rather pricey, so don't want to drop a clangar by getting a 13mm one if the barlowed 24mm will suffice.

I would give the Ultima barlow a chance and see how it does - it's a quality optic and, as you already own it, what have you got to lose ?.

A 13mm Hyperion with 28mm & 14mm fine tuning rings will give you four focal length options - 13mm / 10.8mm / 9.2mm / 8.1mm. No need for the 8mm so you could sell your barlow to help fund the new eyepiece?
