EQ2 counter weight shaft paint scratches off easily?

Hi, whenever I try and balance my scope the counter weight seems to scratch a heck of a

lot of silver paint off the shaft and leave it with tones of copper rusty looking scratches on. Has this ever happened to anyone before?

They do get some marks on them but they should not be deep scratches if you are loosening the screw that holds the weight in position before moving it.

What does the end of the lock-bolt look like? How about the hole through the weight(s) itself ? Is it smooth, or could there be a burr inside that is doing the job ? Does/do the weight(s) move smoothly up and down the shaft? You should check out all those things. Deep gouges are NOT normal for a telescope balance bar !

Hi ,just bought a secondhand C11 scope.The bar is the same

as yours.It looks like cheap chrome plating.Looks very rough.

The shaft is about 2 cm thick, so it will make no diffrence.It just looks a Bit tatty thats all.
