i use the petzel ones and they are great waterproof shock proof you name it.also b and q sell energiser ones quite good, but you get what you pay for

Yeah I agree. Petzel make the best head torches in the world and I use them exclusively when mountaineering.

They are weather sealed and very robust. This is less of an issue as if its raining I am not going to be looking through my telescope anyway.

They do cost 2 or 3x more though.

I made a head torch by taken a broken head torch and aralditing a pound shop rear cycle lamp to it, i also got some red led arm bands and fitted them to my tripod legs to stop me tripping over them
