Web cam for guide camera

Hi all

I'll soon be getting into the world of guiding and was just wondering if a webcam can be used as a guide camera in an St80?

My plans are to get a skywatcher guide scope mount and a qhy5 but was just wondering if a web cam is any good as I have one.

Thanks

Paul

I guess that all depends on what the webcam in question is? The SPC900 cameras are sensitive enough to pick up guide stars, and I have recently switched to using a Microsoft Lifecam HD. Modded to be in an old 25mm EP body, but otherwise standard. It's worked a treat for me thus far, very sensitive, picking up suitable guide stars wherever I've pointed it :D The guiding app PHD supports standard webcams too.
