benjii
I've tried searching the forum but I couldn't find anything definitive. So, what x2 barlow would people recommend? More expensive than the SW deluxe and tal price range, but less than the Celestron ultima. Thanks!
John
A used Ultima / Orion Shorty Plus (they are the same barlow) ?.You should be able to pick one up for around £50.The Tele Vue 2x is an excellent one too - you can get those used for around the same price. benjii
How about the X-Cel LX x2 barlow? Has anyone had any experiences with that one?
Brinders
I have four barlows 2 Tals (2X and 3x) the 2" Skywatcher ED Delux and a 2.5 x Revelation Astro apochromatic. Of all three, the Revelation Astro is easily the best giving excellent aberration free views both visually and for imaging. I can't recommend it highly enough.Revelation Astro 2.5x Barlow Lens 1.25"Brinders

Not threaded for filters, but in the real world that's never actually a problem.Tim

You mention it's not threaded for filters, that wouldn't effect me having a filter on the EP though, would it?
West End Wendy
Exactly - you can always attach the filter to the ep. I guess the only reason it's nice for a barlow to be threaded is so you can swap eyepieces in and out of it and leave the filter in place. No great loss though. cotterless45
You can also unscrew the bottom lens section of a x2 Barlow and thread it into the bottom of your EP. With a Skywatcher , this'll give you x1.5.You can also put the whole Barlow into the focusser and secure your laser collimator into the Barlow to check final collimation, after cheshire/ cap collimation. You'll see the reflection of your centre (primary) ring. Just centre that by the primary mirror bolts and it's collimated. This is neat as it doesn't mtter about focus slop to your laser.
