32 bit image processing???

Hi all:

I had an older version of photoshop (5.5)...it seemed to only allow 8 bit processing. I am getting Photoshop elements 10. Would this allow me to process in more depth...32 bit? My greys in lunar shots seemed somewhat grainy...not smooth

If so, I'm hoping my imaging will improve...or would that have any bearing?

The grain may be noise rather than 8-bit...? With the moon being quite bright, I would not expect the restriction to 8 bits too be such an issue.
