Help with a Canon 500D Please

Hi all

My canon 500d has a backlight on the main screen that comes on and basically blinds me in the dark. There is a sensor there so when you move your eye towards the eyepiece it goes off, then as you move away, it comes on again.

I cannot for the life of me find where I can turn this off, I know I am missing something along the way but it is driving me mad, everytime my eyes just get adapted, bang, this things comes on again. Any help would be welcomed. Thanks

Go up to the menu button in the top left, find LCD brightness and move it to the left. Also turn off review time for the image.

the button next to the menu one is a display on off button press this after seting up and the display will only show the subs after capture but wont go back to the bright settings display till you press the button again.
