You can observe Venus in the southwest sky as the sun goes down.

Very bright, so unmissable.

Jupiter too is a treat. The Orion Nebula. M41, a nice open cluster about 4 degrees below Sirius, so you'll need a clear southern horizon for that one..

M35 an open cluster in Gemini.

If you don't have Stellarium Panetarium prog. it's a free download, and you can plan your viewing sessions from that.

looking good here too, so much is available for observing this time of year its not easy to know what to start, its a nice bonus with Venus setting to the west and Jupiter sitting nice in the south, not a bad way to get going.

I have been taking a closer look at the many dso's in and around Gemini and Orion, worth a browse.
