Yes, it's disappointing for me at the moment too.

Of course it's low in the sky and there's a lot of atmospheric refraction, but then Venus is never really high in the sky during hours of darkness, and yet I do remember seeing it really clearly last year when it was a morning 'star'.

The earlier you look the better, as it is higher (so less atmosphere and turbulence to look through) and easier on the eyes when there is less difference between the planet and the background sky. Venus is very bright. A Moon filter may help.

I prefer to look at and image Venus in daylight. (if you can safely find it - it is never very far from the Sun).
