Solar filters.

Thousand oaks glass filters and Herschel prisms. Both considerably more expensive than the Baader filter material. If you're worried about making your own filter then there are a variety of pre-made filter cells available which use the Baader film.

Hi there witch are the ones that you can see surface detail with?

Cheers.

Depends on what you mean.

You can see some basic granular features and sunspots using Baader or Thousand Oaks or a wedge on a refractor. (I don't think you need an etalon in front of a wedge?)

To get those spectacular images you see, you need a dedicated solar scope.

JMB also do a glass front aperture solar filter, Seymour do a variation on the film type.

The Herschel wedge only works with refractors and MUST be used with secondary ND filters.

All these will show the surface features.

A specialised etalon filter system is needed to observe the Ha detail and prominences.
