okay, i know they have narrow field of view (7-21mm version) but im after your opinions as to weather it would make a short term stopgap ,say 6 months or so untill money allows better options ?

i can get one for under £ 30 at the moment.

as you can see from my sig, im lacking in options for higher magnifications.

my other option is to get one fixed e/p (say about 12mm) and use the barlow when possible .

either way the zoom would be a short term solution. so ...is it worth the £ 30 or stay clear ?

For £30.. it could be a fun thing to have

& less fattening than 30 bars of choc.

I have one. Having used it I now think of it as a 14-21mm zoom where it's OK. I use it mostly for the moon.

Luke, skies the limit are selling on ebay new for £30,that's my dilema

looking at the skywatcher zooms. the 7-21mm has f.o.v between 30-43 degrees, while the 8-24mm zoom has a much better 40-60 degrees .

7-21=£30, 8-24=£50.

well, i can forget all that now. apart from more research showing the 7-21 to be quite poor, ive just blew my budget on a telrad from buy and sell ! oh well.

The SW 8-24mm zoom is not the best on the market but for £50 as a stopgap it's great value for money and still very useable. But if you've spent your £30 now it's all pretty accademic. Just thought I'd comment so you'll know if the topic arises again in the future

Thanks brantuk. Might still go for a 8_24. But I'll avoid the 7-21mm .
