Obersvatory SCT users question

I'm planning on getting an observatory built in the very near future, how do you deal with dew that has formed on the front plate when you are finished observing with the roof back in place etc?

I dry mine off with a hair drier.

Just a few moments with a hair dryer.

And keep the lens cover somewhere warm and dry when it's off

Don't overdo it with the hair drier, though. Crack!!

A more benign method is just to drape a warm dry towel (prepared earlier!) over the front, not resting on the glass. This is also a good way to demist during a session. It's remarkably quick and simple.

If you have gone to the expense of an obs baaed setup then I would have thought you would have installed dew bands on the scope...?

When it came to dew I found prevention was better than cure..

I never go out without a dewshield, if it looks bad a dew heater. To remove if it is not too wet leave the lans cover off to dry naturally - if not it is a careful whizz with a hairdryer.

As Peter above, prevention is always better.

Take preventative measures. Get a good dew shield, and adequate heated dew strips.

Hi guys, I have a dew heater and strips but not used them yet, I'm hoping to get the observatory built very soon so thanks for the replies, as for a dew sheild any recommendations foir a 12" sct?

I us this on a 250mm 1 Metre square give 2 shields you would properly need 1 X 2 Metres piece, and some Black Duck tape used on the outside only.
