M42 - Atik 4000

Lovely weather last 2 days. At last managed to image M42 with my new Atik 4000.

This image is LRGB 30:30:30:30 10min each. Used 30sec core mask.

Cropped sightly due to L Flats not quite right. Will fix that next time around with longer flat duration.

Great choice of camera!

The pic is good but you could get it even better. You do need more data if you can get it and you need some much shorter subs for the Trapezium. I used 11 seconds at F5.3 and less than that at F3.9. The blending technique which I like best is from Lodigruss;

Compositing 2 Different Exposures via Layer Masks

You also have some green thing going on! (This is very common and afflicts nearly all my uncorrected images.) If you have Pixinsight then SCNR set to green will do it. If you don't, there is a freebie Hasta Luego Green on Rogelio Bernal Andreo's Deep Sky Colors website.

You could try a shorter stretch of data as a layer underneath in order to pull down those very bright devils just outside the nebula, too.

NB I only say all this because you asked for ideas; it's good as it is!
