Celestron 10 x 50 nature binoculars

Had a pair of these in my stocking for Xmas and had only a couple of minutes of clear sky last night in which to test them...

Was really pleased with them and had a chance to pick out m42, pleiades, jupiter etc to show my brother who was subsequently blown away. Good optics for the price. May be could do with softer eyepiece 'guards' for comfort. Also being from the west country my interpupillary distance is probably a bit less than average ? so it feels a tiny bit tight between the eyepieces for me. Otherwise, build quality feels sturdy and covers for the optics fit nicely too.

On the whole am delighted with them ?!

celestron binos are my favorite. i have tried the 7x50s, and i have a pair of 8x56 which i need to share soon with everyone.

I think they are one of the best pair of binocs built. being 10x50 they will lack a little bit of light gathering power, but the glass and coatings will still provide stunning views. And if your not looking at the darkest of objects in the night sky, then yours will prevail being a bit more magnification. I always wanted a 10x50 for daytime hiking use, but i never leave home without my 8x56's for both daytime and nighttime use.

How i test a new pair of binos is i always look into the darkest shadows of trees on a bright day to make sure everything is still cleanly visible (that is the part where the jaw actually hits the floor) and then at night i take them out to see if i can resolve into the darkest of shadowed areas under celestial light, meaning again, trees, and into the trees, etc.. both of my pairs have performed wonderfully. I caught 2 great horned owls in the tree above my house a week ago, for the first time i might add, and i could NOT see them with my eyes, but with the binos, i could see them like it was daylight, with no moon out.

Anybody know of any good stars to do a magnitude test on with our celestron bino's to test its true resolving power?

Hi Donohew,

I'm considering getting those, I would be interested in reading of your observing experiences when you get some clear skies. What a great Christmas present! I wonder what you'll be able to make out at a dark sky site? I am a newbie.

Regards,

Bill.
