Lunar Eclipse Photos from California

Hi Folks,

I had prepared to go with my 127 mak shooting prime focus on my Canon DSLR, but dewing and haze prevented my use of the bigger aperture and higher mag. On to plan B! Switch the 127 mak for a 75-300 mm lens and back on the tripod! Lost the first contact moments, but shooting commenced over the next hour or so until morning clouds and sunrise both conspired to foil the view.

Took lots of shots, some of the best are below. Look for i-Tauri just to the left of the Moon in a few shots. Dawn photos were indeed lovely , and yes - that is a Date Palm tree in the foreground! Shot from a farmer's field about 5 km from my home.

these have had little or no processing. Some minor tweaking with brightness in a couple of the dawn shots, then resized them for web use.

Lots of fun! Now off to buy the holiday tree!

Hello Dan nice set of photos of the lunar eclipse. I spoke to Paul in San Francisco a few hours ago and he got up early to view it but I think he missed the best part.

Indeed Sir!

I'm making plans to see the eclipse and I've been in touch with one of the local clubs up there. I hope to go out with them, as they will know the terrain and best local viewing spots!

I was having a bit of trouble seeing the full versions of there photos here on SGL - prolly my fault for posting them a bit too big.
