QHY9 teething problems

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I just bought a QHY9 and am having a slight issue. When I take a quick 300ms exposure with the cap on I get this:

Which is kind of what I would expect :) However taking the cap off and pointing it at anything in my living room I end up with this clipped looking black and white image:

I'm using EZCAP and have tried playing around with the gain and offset but still no use. I know this camera is sensitive but surely 300ms is low enough for me not to get a clipped image from dim living room lighting?

Has anyone come across this before?

Thanks,

Samir

Hi Samir,

CCD imagers are very sensitive and it's possible that a 0.3s exposure may be overloading the sensor.

Try lower exposure times e.g. 0.1s, 0.05s, 0.01s.

Also try taping a piece of cardboard to the end of the scope with just a small hole in the centre - this will further reduce the light getting to the sensor.
