This seems a bargain , but!

Recommended Posts

I have been looking for a first scope and after looking at various

options I got interested in an orion starblast 6 , the smaller 4.5

just had a great review in sky at night magazine.

searching google I came up with this Orion StarBlast 6 Astro Reflector Telescope, Jane's Tote

about £100 cheaper than in uk with free uk delivery

whats the catch , am I going to be hit with import

taxes or have to wait 6 months for delivery!

Has anyone heard of this company , appreciate any replys.

I have heard of Janes Tote. They are based in the US.

"All of our products are shipped from the USA and made to follow American standards"

While they say delivery to the UK is free I think you'd still be hit with import duties and taxes. You could always ask them to make sure I suppose.

I'd be inclined to get one from SCS Astro even if they are £75.00 more. At least you'd have a UK warranty and wouldn't have to return the scope to the US if there was a problem.

BTW the optics are the same as SkyWatcher.

Hi, thanks for replies , the main reason I prefer this is it has what looks like a red dot finder (not sure how good it is) also seems a bit more portable so even when I upgrade to a more serious scope

it will be good for camping or letting the kids use it.

I see what you mean about buying in england but the extra money

would probably be better spent on a 200mm or eyepiece.

Still unsure , but it seems all newbies are

As a starter scope, the heritage 130p , with a few additions, such as a Barlow and a collimator could be what you are looking for. Ultimate grab and go scope. They can then be reused on your next scope if you want to go further.

Edit- a red dot finder is included.
