Picked up from somewhere, possibly SGL5. Nice AE box, but no identifying marks. Could it be a focal reducer?!?

It looks like the barlow attachment that is used in binoviewers to gain focus on fracs etc.

Looks identical to the 0.6 focal reducer I once had.

Easy enough to find out.

a) Does it behave like a rather weak magnifying glass? If so, it's the focal reducer.

When you hold it up at arms length, do you get a minaturised image of the stuff in your room? If so, then it's a Barlow/OCS lens

In both cases, it's designed to be screwed onto the filter threads of an eyepiece/binoviewer

Yes, it is like a very weak magnifier, so a focal reducer it must be! I have an AE Barlow lens, which is similar, but shorter.

I can put this to use at last with my Mak.

I think you might have good results with this screwed onto the end of a 26mm Plossl.

(full-field eyepieces like a 32mm plossl will vignette)
