Why did this happen?

can you explain if this is normal? Its a single 2min exposure of vega using a un-modded 1000d. It seems quite bright.

I am out with my first guide camera and Bant Mask and already have exposed loger then ever before.

The pink background is light pollution I'm afraid. The solution is to try a light pollution filter or image from a dark sky location. One of these may help.

I knew you were going to say that! i have a light pollution filter for my eyepieces and i have the adaptors to project so i'll try that.

I am usiing PHD to guide and so far am quite happy, i see people posting there graphs but dont know what they are for, what does this mean?

Unfortunately, I don't use PHD so the X and Y units on this graph are unknown to me but it looks like a perfectly reasonable trace of your RA and DEC errors to me, born out by good star shapes in your image.

I am not quite certain what those artifacts are, but were you trying to shoot through a thin cloud cover ? Those streaks look that that could have been the case. In which, the light pollution would have been far more obvious than if the sky had been clear. I cancelled out the light pollution in Photoshop Elements 9.
