HEQ5 Pro is awesome!

So after a lot of questions and deliberation I upgraded my mount from the EQ3-2 to HEQ5 Pro Synscan (thanks to Parkway). Everyone here on SGL recommended getting a better mount etc but it took time to realise the big spend in money!

Still tonight I had a play and WOW! what an awesome mount. I was very happy with the 3-2 and 90s subs. Image below is a single 210s sub unguided!!!!! No darks/flats/bias just the image from the camera.

Yep 3.5 mins and not damn bad if I say so myself! OK polar alignment was reasonable but this is without drift align etc so pretty pleased with the results.

Now I need to save up for the NEQ6 Pro! (don't tell the wife though!)

Clear skies all

Cheers

Jamie

I have the same mount which I chose over the EQ6 because of the overall weight and portability. I was just starting out imaging and couldn't see myself using anything more than my Orion ED80/ST80 imaging guide combo and the HEQ5 is more than adequate for that sort of setup.

Touch wood, I've never had any problems with it and can't see myself needing to upgrade anytime soon.....especially with the superb EQMod software support.

Enjoy.

I've had my HEQ5 for seven months now (and it was second hand when I got it)... it's an awesome mount, can't really fault it (apart from a slight issue with the guiding port, which I've now overcome).

Likewise, I plan to get a EQ6 in the new year, but wanted the HEQ5 for portability, and haven't regretted it one bit so far.

Even with a 5" Apo or a full side-by side guiding rig on there it hasn't complained once.
