alowen
Evening all, im going back to an AZ mount after trying and not really enjoying an EQ mount. My scope is the Skywatcher Startravel 120mm refractor im going to buy an AZ4 mount and the ads state that the aluminum leg verion will support up to a 127mm ota. The question i have is that the steel leg version is sooooooooooo much more stable.Imaging isnt an issue as this set up is purely for Messier hunting, so, will my ota be fine on the alu leg mount or is the steel version needed?ThanksAl
John
The steel leg version is a lot more stable but it does move the mount more towards the "grunt and go" category as it's fairly heavy. For low to medium power with a short tubed scope like the Startravel 120 I reckon the alu legged tripod would be OK.
