Totally impractical for me from a setup point of view, but very tempting.

If they can do the 12" for £450, maybe the 16" will be as low as £1200?

I think Meade are supposed to be bringing out a 16" Truss Dob in the USA, I've no idea whether the GSOs will be truss or split Dobs (I'd guess split).

Do you think Meade will import the 16"? It wasn't that long ago they pulled out of the budget Dob market. I think the GSOs have more chance of getting over here.

A site I was looking at today had some Meade dobsonians and they ship to the UK, http://www.opticsplanet.net/meade-starfinder12-5-telescope.html I think postage would be a nightmare though!

Those Starfinders have always had the reputation of having good optics and poor everything else, you're buying a 'project'

Just an update: Teleskop Service in Germany have begun selling GSO 16" f4.5 mirrors with secondary and Crayford focuser for 1250 Euros.

The full scopes can't be too far behind.
