Stu
Just packed up after watching the Io transit. Actually, mainly watched the shadow which was very clear, great to see. Only picked up Io as it moved towards the limb and crossed onto the belt slightly. Very clearly saw it then as it gradually became a bump on the side of jupiter, then cleared it altogether.Conditions weren't great, looking over houses so was mainly using a 28mm uwan in the mak, x142 as any higher the image just didn't get any better.A good evenings viewingStuSent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
John
Nice report Stu ...Conditions weren't great, looking over houses so was mainly using a 28mm uwan in the mak, x142 as any higher the image just didn't get any better....147x with a 28mm UWAN You and I share similar observing issues by the sound of it - I'm getting nice views of Jupiter with my ED120 but 150x or 180x is as far as I can push it without loss of the finer feature contrast
Stu
Thanks JohnAt one point I was using a 31t5 giving x129, not a typical planetary ep :-). Amazing the difference using it in the mak vs the lovely widefield views in the 4".Last night was very good, but frustrating. In the past I've been able to pick up plenty of detail in the polar regions, smaller belts etc but last night they were just washed out. As I said, I couldn't see Io at all until it moved towards the limb, and crossed onto the belt a little. I guess the skies just aren't that good at the moment. To be honest, I would probably have seen as much in the 4" frac which is not my previous experience. Are you at PSP at all? Would be good to catch up if you are.StuSent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
