Cant see Jupiters moons?

Does anyone know why I cant see Jupiters moons out of my Bushnell 8x42 bincoculars?

i cant get a break in the clouds to see anything tonight.

Yes tonight is cloudy cant see much out their now, but for the last week with clear skies all I can see is Jupiter looking like a bright star, cannot see any moons or much else out of my binoc's.

Try supporting your binoculars on something to hold them as steady as possible. There are 3 moons visible at the moment (ie: right now) and all 3 are on the western side of the planet (binocular view).

yep, try to support the bins with somethin , let your eyes adjust to seeing the planet for a few mins , there will be tiny starlike points of like near to the planet , they are the moons !!

A steady mount is the key, but you might be expecting a LOT from those 8X42s ! You don't have to answer this in the forum, but your age, experience and other conditions also play a part.

25X starts to show you the moons with some clarity, but even then, the planet is likely to be a small dot, smaller than a pencil eraser held at arms length !
