  1. Most disapointing moment- Setting up my new (2nd user) LX200 12" to find it no longer worked after sitting in my garage in its box for 7 months, did it work when i bought it? who knows. Most dissapointing for me but not so bad for BC&F hey.
  2. Nearly 12 months after the upgrade and a few issues later with the scope, yes it was certainly worth the effort, the scope alighns beautifully as Graham suggested it would 'very' smoothly. The upgrades removed near all slop when losening to fine alighn, i'v spent hours with this setup now and althought perfect alignment seems to be a thing of much fine tuning i am very satisfied with the ease and accuracy that i have achieved. I think without the modifications i would have been doing a lot more work in the dark hours. i'm glad Graham was able to make a sloppy Meade wedge a Super wedge, Thankyou Graham for finding the time to help me, thankyou also for the generosity you showed in delivering and helping place it, it's an old school attitude that you would help someone because you can, and a selfless attitude that you would have done all this without want for money or praise but you certainly deserve some praise. anyone with a Meade wedge that seems to be over tight, sloppy when lose or wrong again when tightened, would do well to take a look at what Graham did and see if they can find a willing party to help them get things how they should have been from new.
  3. So how much where they?
  4. @ibraidwo - Nice complete kit for travel i would think, can't see you being disappointed with it for some time to come, you got it at around what i would have maxed out at, i did chat to the guy to see if he would end early for a price and he punched £20.00 higher than what he reached, so he will be happy as well. Welcome to the world of SGL thread posting.
  5. if whoever won it don't get on with it let me know.
  6. make a nice little spotter hey, and i notice they were around £400.00 with the bits he has with it... I might punt on it myself at that money and mount it to my 12" and see what its like as a guide.
  7. @ Pete_l, @Jonathan, i'm with you, I'm just waiting for the 12" Dew-not to re appear on Ebay at the right money again.
  8. I fell foul of not checking anothers handy skills with a soldering iron yesterday, luckily without consequence. i purchased a scope with a dew band already surrounding the tube, remarked as being made via the instructions of Dew-busters website, (haven't looked yet myself) seemingly nicely made and positioned and fixed as if I'd done it myself. when purchasing the scope i was told it had been appreciated and used a fair bit, they were reluctant to clean the primary even though it was slightly murky to look at, I was advised that even with the dew-band fitted dew had always been a problem, well i did the SGL advised checks and checked for mold and corrosion, looked at the primary to see if it was scratched or marked and it all seemed good apart from needing (not in my opinion) the clean. Ha, well it could have been worse, i plugged the lot in to test and pop went the switch on my RCD, i unplugged the mains power supply to the scope and tried again pop went the RCD again, i removed the CCD, you guessed it POP, i removed the Guider dew-band POP, i removed the home made dew-band from the dew buster and hey presto nothing tripped.. didn't get as far as a test meter as when i pulled back the phono plug to reveal the connection the whole lot was soldered together, complete incompetent bodge, i learnt a lesson today if i didn't do it myself or buy it from a retailer then check the lot before i plug my expensive stuff into it. could have lost my dew-buster, made a mess of my OTA, could have gone up in smoke while my back was turned and lost the lot. Anything could have happened all down to someone else thinking they had the skill set to make a dew band. Lesson learnt, don't trust anything test it all. no wonder dew had been such an issue, the band never worked, how the battery they run it all from ever worked and didn't over heat i don't know. glad mine all runs on an RCD. Rant over.
  9. For me it is very rare to feel so comfortable spending money on products you don't really know with people you don't get to see. being in retail myself (store based) i like to hold and touch things before i part with my money, but Astrotec Limited (Graham) went beyond any expected service level and discussed designed and worked with me to make sure i got what i was after, with detailed drawings and exact (not guessed) costings he has now made two perfect adapter plates and a mounting plate for my pier and scopes. I can highly recommend Grahams services and attitude to his work, the product is made solid, and the pricing for my item was around 35% cheaper than i could find elswhere. not that i looked too hard after talking to Graham, and pricing was never the issue for this it was more a case of getting what i wanted, even if i wasn't sure what i wanted until I'd talked to him. Thanks Astrotec (Graham) Astrotec Limited CONTACT US Now if someone could just recommend him a web site designer i'm sure it would blossom.
  10. i have two more laying around and that leaves me one spare to keep. if i can make £160-200 for them i will go get myself a small guide scope and sell the ETX90 off. WOW they managed £117.00 for that one.
  11. No comment, but a show of respect. RIP Kev.
  12. Well for near on a year I've been planning and building a twice failed box to house my scope. As with all best laid plans (mine anyhow) they never seem to quite go as expected. i started off with a project that enabled me to house the scope on a Linak lifting column and raise it out the roof as required, about 2 months ago i thought i was all set, but after installing the scope to my newly built 'Stowe' I found an issue with the dimensions of the roof opening, no more detail required it can be summed up in a single word 'frustrating'. So without further dwelling on the matter i set about adapting my pent roofed shed into an apex 'ROR' shed, this was not as easy or as cheep as i had expected but completed without issue in about 2 weekends. I now have a completed but not quite ready to go Stowe for my LX200 12" that has remained unused since purchase at least 6 months ago. I owe a lot of thanks to Graham (Steelfixer) who made the adapter and mounting plates for my Pier base and scope, he also transformed my Meade Wedge from a horrible sloppy piece of poor engineering into a steadfast slop free aptly named 'Super Wedge' it was great to have his help and if reading this cant thank you enough for coming to my home off your own back and letting me watch you install it for me without your help, equipment and knowledge i would have still been scratching my head, Thankyou. I hope you have many nights sitting back relaxing with those Cigars and clear skies my friend. Anyhow some pictures so you can all see why it's been raining so much. cable clutter included, remote PC and breaker in the corner and a Linak DL2 to lift the LX above the shed line. Bar the weather I've been set for about a week to get running.
  13. Yeah sorry guys, the excitement took over for a while, can you imagine the sinking feeling when i pulled the cap off, LOL. I decided to import the WO Quartz Dialectric from WO direct, as i can save £100.00 i used a duty calc to work the figures and it turns out you pay no duty on this item only the VAT at entry, so for £102.00 i can afford the WO. I trust the Revelation would have worked well due to the comments but i fancy the quality control of WO over the savings. Thanks for the opinions. The UK markup on these items is a little gross if you ask me, 100% in times like these is just asking too much from your customer base. it would seem the Astro community is a little prayed upon by companies with big profits in mind. i did also notice that you cant find a price change on Meade solid dew shields anywhere, and i thought price fixing was illegal in the UK. not one supplier is different in price. @ Dunkster, i was thinking of getting the push fit with the SCT adapter as i intend to get myself a WO 110 in the next 12 months if funds allow and hoped it would fit. @ Lardy, which version of SKYX are you using, and did you use the SkyPro before? I have SkyPro, i like the new look of X but cant justify the cost to do the same thing!?
  14. Yep, not sure if I should use the red face smiley or just laugh out loud. John your right I pulled the end cap and as you suggested its the picture off the bottom of the cap reflecting. As I don't own anything WO yet I'm surprised to say the least. Come on we're all aloud a moment.
  15. Thought this maybe useful to those that like to keep their options open. New Import Duty & VAT Calculation | DutyCalculator I just worked out that to import a Diagonal from Taiwan would only cost me £16.00 over and above the purchase cost, thats a huge saving making it worth while buying.
  16. Thanks for the heads up i just reserved myself a 10A PSU.
  17. i don't understand John? you mean the plastic cap that shields from dust?
  18. thanks for the info terry, i will look into the revelation before i jump.
  19. Just buy what one you want from a real shop and not online and take your 6 year fit for purpose warranty, a lot to be gained buying from a high street shop still. HTH
  20. Excuse the point and shoot Ixus images but thats all i could be bothered with this time of night. But as stated WO / Meade diagonal. i was hoping you guys were all going to tell me that a 2011 2" would be the same.
  21. i will do just that, and i can confirm it's a genuine Meade branded item with the WO logo in the diagonal (inside). i'll take on board the rest of the comments and take a look at the quarts Revelation. this is going to sound daft i'm sure but only if you know the answer, whats Dielectric?
  22. 35 - Setting up your new finder scope to find that when you swing the scope into action it may have been centered to perfection but it wasn't tight enough to stop it bouncing off the floor. I know, i'm sensing the sniggers.....
  23. I'm wanting a diagonal for my 12" SCT as its only Visual and i'm fed up of trying to contort myself into silly positions. i'm up for advice on what people consider to be good and sensibly priced but have been considering the Meade 5000 series Diagonal or the William Optics. I have a Meade (made in China) 1.25" Diagonal on my 8" that came with the scope new, i was happy with the results and have been content with it since day one, i happily noticed the William Optics logo in the back of it the other day and wondered if anyone may know if they also produced a 2" version for Meade that i may find if i know what to look for? Thanks
  24. i think this is the same petition that was in the lounge or heads up about a month or so ago.. Signed, sealed and delivered.
