Has anyone had any experience with the Celestron 130EQ and/or 114EQ before? They're practically the only telescopes in my tiny budget (£140) (there's also the celestron 70AZ) what would you recommend?

Can't comment on those, but have you considered second-hand? You can get a lot more for your money if you're patient and careful. For instance TAL-1 are very highly regarded and can be picked up for a lot less than your budget of £140. Example here

Luke's suggestion of a used Tal-1 is a very good one, great views for a low price.
