guiding set up help

im looking to put a webcam in to the finder as a finder guider so my question is do i need a st4 cable so i can use phd for guiding?

im unsure how to get the mount guiding

PHD will connect to your webcam....the issue is getting the "correction" signals back from the PC to the ST4 port on the mount.

I use a Keyspan USB>Serial adaptor then a GPUSB (Shoestring) adaptor to a ST4 cable which then plugs into the guide port on the mount.

If you use EQMOD / PHD with an EQDIR lead, doesn't that do away with the need to use the ST4 port ??

Yes, you can pulse guide the HEQ5 through EQMOD/EQDIR...........
