YOU WERE WARNED!!!

To be honest I think I'm stretching my camera's abilities a bit far here. It's a 4 year old compact camera, lined up to the eyepiece on a separate tripod. Each shot was 3.2s at ISO 400, and I managed around 20. Each shot barely showed any stars so I had to manually stack the images in GIMP. Ah well, bright open clusters tend to look rather good, so I may try some of those in future. Magnification was (750/25=)30x.

Here's one shot on its own.

Afocal imaging with a compact camera is not the easiest way of doing things!

However, despite the trailing (which is also apparent on the individual sub) you have clearly captured 'a fuzzy'.

Open clusters are a lot easier, and there are a few nice ones becoming visible now. I look forward to seeing your results.

  • 1 year later...

hey, just spotted your thread on the afocal shot of the M13 globular cluster.

and here is my attempt at it, just a few nights ago (Sunday, if i recall it right):

it may not look like much, but i just did it out of curiosity. i'll try to improve this result, with more frames.

i 'll do a "side-by-side" test as well, with the EOS in the focus of the C8, to see the differences.

cheers!
