QHY5 with DIY guide port

This may be a blindingly stupid question but ....

As I understand it the QHY5 has a dedicated guide port. Will this work in conjunction with a standard HEQ5 that I have DIY'ed a guide port into the handset, or does it need the guide port that would come on a higher spec HEQ5?

The QHY5 has a ST4 guidport so whatever you plug in has to be ST4 compatible alternatively just guide using the usb port.

I had a similar problem with a different cam, try plugging into the handset which cured my problem, may not be the answer but worth a try

Maybe I should try and re explain the query. It's a more a "will it work" than "it's not working"

I have a bog standard HEQ5 - it doesn't have a guide port on the mount. As such, I have bodged a port into the handset via shoestring astronomy and am setting up guiding via random camera, PHD and GPUSB.

I do not currently own a QHY5, the question was does the guide port in the handset provide all the same functionality as the guide port in the more advanced mounts - can I removed the GPUSB from the equation and link a QHY5 directly to the handset?

Or will I still need the GPUSB if/when I acquire a QHY5.
