Eyepiece size

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I guess in a nutshell, all other things being equal, 2" eyepieces will give a wider Field of View for a given focal length (and therefore magnification) than the equivalent 1.25" eyepieces.

Of course, the 2" being larger has a lot more optically shaped and coated glass to the elements in them, and therefore they tend to be quite a bit more expensive...!

I'm sure others on the forum can give you much more detail on the pros and cons of 1.25" and 2" eyepieces than I...!

Best Wishes,

Jim

2" fit eyepieces will give a wider field of view than 1.25" fit PROVIDED that the field stop of the 2" eyepiece is greater than the aperture through a 1.25" fitting. There are some wonderful eyepieces in the 2" fit range but the good ones are expensive.
