Mount Conection..

Hi

My second question I have a mount that just has a ST4 port on it. Can a laptop be connected to this mount via the use of say Ascom drivers. If so which software and hardware would i use please?

Just a ST4 port? Doesn't the mount have a port for the handset? Which mount?

Hi

Yes it has 5 ports in all but they are all HBX ports 1 for the hand set 2 join RA and Dec motors leaving 2 spare 1 for a GPS and the other for an ST4 to HBX adaptor.. ITs the Ioptron Goto Nova Unit. I know it will guide with the camera i have a Starlight express and obviously with its hand set. I also know there is Ascom drivers out there for Ioptron but they are not that good But the Ioptron also emulate either the LX200 or the Astro Physics mount and you can use the Ascom drivers for them Its just that i wondered if you could control it direct from a Laptop?

I wouldn't think it would be possible to control the mount directly from a laptop without the handset. The Skywatcher Synscan mounts, for instance, still need either the handset or an EQDIR module for computer control.

What about the mounts that have Ascom drivers designed for them Such as the LX200 Are the drivers not made so they can be PC controlled?

On most systems you still need some form of interface between the PC and the mount.
