Asteroid Haumea

Recommended Posts

Doesn't look much, but I captured 17th magnitude Plutoid/Asteroid Haumea last night to add to my tally of outer planets. It's currently in Bootes not far from Arcturus. This field of view is about 18 arc-minutes across, and the brightest star at bottom left is about mag 8.8.

I love this kind of stuff. Will you take another shot to see where it has moved?

Thanks! Yes, I ought to, although it will probably have moved off the edge of the field by now.

I bet it hasn't moved al that far in such short a time. What would be really good is to take several shots and create a animated GIF.

You're right. I should've done an animation, but I've checked and in the week since that image was taken, Haumea has indeed moved off the top of the frame (the field of view is only 20' across). Even the outer planets move at a fair rate!
