Developed a short in the OBs, felt like vibration on the tripod legs !!!!!!

If you are using a switch mode power supply this is quite common... most dont use an earth connection and can therefore float a bit above it.
Try adding an earth wire to the legs of the tripod.
If this does not cure it, then change to a stabilised DC power supply with an isolation transformer built in...FLO sell the Maplin one.
