hi just using a quark on a 100mm quad stepped down to about 72mm with a erf filter, using a electronic focuser so i can use small steps for focusing, image taken with a screen grab ,used both an asi 178mc and asi462mc camera, think i should be getting something better any advice really appreciated thanks also tried adjusting quark with the knob on the quark

Hi, the bressers and Lunt are two different kinds of scope. The Lunt is a dedicated solar telescope whereas the bresser is used for white light and calcium II k wavelength. As such the bresser gives a slightly higher resolution because it's working at 80mm. The Lunt is 60mm. I'd certainly recommend the bresser if you're going to use it with a quark. As I said, I use mine with either a Hershel wedge or the Lunt CaK wedge. Mine is the 100mm one but if I was looking to buy again I'd definitely go bigger say the 127 or 150 because of having to stop them down 20mm because it helps with spherical aberration, chromatic aberration isn't worth taking about when using single wavelengths.
thanks the 127 are fl1200 and f9.5 isnt the fl a bit much? cheers

Hi just wondered what scope you used with your daystar quarks and any chance of a sample image thanks

Hi, no it was with a Lunt which is given as an example of an achromatic scope as apposed to needing an ED doublet or better. Wasn't intending it to be an example of a quark. I use a plastic tub slightly smaller than the diameter of the bressers front and cut a hole in the bottom of the tub. Cheap and simple. Hope that helps to clear things up.
thanks and how do you rate your bresser against the lunt because sooner than later im going to buy a scope just for the solar imaging cheers

@iwols I have told you the wrong thing, it is 135mm back from the rear edge of the focuser. 🤦♂️
So if not using the diagonal you will need a ~ 36mm extension tube. I use the body of a 2x Celestron barlow. Thanks where are you measuring to on your camera please

Thanks that's what I needed👍

Hi just using this scope for solar imaging but can anyone tell me what the back focus is as i can't find a figure anywhere thanks

thats a great image ide be more than happy with that👍

well been round the block and back to the start again,no lunts available, doubts about the solar scout and the odd quark which cant go on my quad scope, so looking again at the quark but with a new scope, can anyone suggest a small scope that will take the quark or what do you use, thanks again

thanks for that but just to clarify ive just had a reply from ts optics stating not to use this scope for solar

I use my 102 for CaK and WL ( Lunt wedge ) - neither wedges get anywhere near warm, so I feel assured by that. As fas as I can remember the William Optics is a three element version, is the TS optics similar?
the ts is a quad scope

well thought i had found my setup for solar imaging, consisting of my ts optics 100mm quad, quark chromosphere,1.25" uv/ir filter for front of quark and a asi 178 camera, but just been told that because my scope is a quad it probably isnt suited to the quark(heat) ,more confused so can anyone throw some light on it thanks as always

thats a great image whats your opinion on the scout please as looking to get into solar thanks

same problem here loking at a daystar ds 60 lunt 40 or lunt 50 for imaging but not sure which button to press so pressing none at the minute ,watching this thread with interest
should i expect better with my quark

thanks bought new but ive been told it is oversampled by a lot so may need a ccd with a larger pixel um??
