  1. Good evening! After asking lots of questions and bugging everyone, I got myself into a position to take some snaps and thought I'd share as I like to chat and talk about this amazing hobby! I started off with some single snaps, which were OK but I think I must have had some light pollution coming in as there is some glare (maybe it's something else?) https://photos.app.goo.gl/iojohPo5LVTc96Cy5 Then I decided to give stacking a go for a laugh which was a good bit of fun, I really like technology so this was right up my street. I took 4 videos at 20 seconds each, ran those videos through PIPP to get an AVI, then put the AVI through AutoStakkerd3 to get this: https://photos.app.goo.gl/fRPtVEpY4enKP2My6 I think it's a bit over-processed and too sharp for my liking, but I have no idea how to control those settings! But it was a good bit of fun for this evening!
  2. Thank you both @PeterStudzand @Stu for the comment. I have a play tonight. I might take my phone case off too and see if that helps! Will keep you posted! Hopefully I'll be posting photos soon enough
  3. Hey there from another Staffordshire person!
  4. Good evening everyone! I've had a go at taken my first ever photos through the telescope this evening, but I ran into some fitting issues. I have a mount which clamps around the EP and holds the phone in place, but what I found was that the phone never really showed the full view of what you see when you look through the EP yourself and wondered if anyone had any tips!
  5. I hope so! My first. I've been trying to line my the phone cam with the lens piece and get it centered, that's a fiddly job! I've got a mount to try too
  6. These are so good! The DSO's are mindblowing I'd love to try and get anything near this!
  7. Amazing! Thank you for the information! I just need these clouds to disappear 😂
  8. These are amazing! Are these single snaps or multiple stacked together?
  9. Wow @Stuthese are amazing!! So these are just single shots then out through a stacker software like DeepDkyStacker or just single photos?
  10. Evening! I'm just wondering if anyone has done anykind of astrophotography using their smartphones? I fully appreciate it'll never be as good as a DSLR, I'm just interested for those who aren't in the position to use a DSLR? I believe it's all about stacking multiple images together. Could you mount your smartphone to your scope take multiple images and then run them through a stacker? Does a stacker account for changes in the position of the subject? If using a non- tracking scope for example. Cheers!
  11. In my recent research that entirely depends on what you are trying to achieve. However my research tells me the H150P is a fantastic starter all rounder scope!
  12. Thank you everyone for your input and valuable feedback it's been amazing! This evening I put an order into FLO for the StellaLyra 6" f/8 Dobsonian. I had a last minute budget change so went for that instead! Looking forward to getting out there and seeing some beautiful sights!
  13. Thank you, that's super useful. I'll check them out!
  14. That is actually super useful to know, because decking is probably my primary viewing spot
  15. Thank you @Orange Smartiemore valuable information! I'm weighing up dob Vs tripod now!
  16. What a wonderful insight @PeterStudz!! Thanks for sharing. I've got lots to think about. I had to really considered anything tripod mounted, but now I'm starting to. Now I need to read up about mounts!
  17. Thank you @happy-kat- lots of great information!
  18. Thanks @Alan64- Your scopes look amazing! I've started to lean towards a tripod mounted scope if I can get one within budget. Are they SW150P's?

    Howdy Folks!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself as I've started posting about beginner equipment already! I'm based in Staffordshire, with my wife and 2 boys (2 and 2 weeks) and I've been interested in Astronomy forever! But it's only ever gone as far as reading. I've always wanted a scope but never had the chance, but here I am now trying to pick up my first scope! I've learnt so much already, and I can't wait to learn more! Thanks
